Support for Safe Boating Efforts
BoatU.S. Foundation: Grassroots Grants Program

The goal of the BoatU.S. Foundation is to be a leader in boating safety and environmental education and outreach, with the purpose of reducing accidents and fatalities, increasing stewardship of the nation's waterways, and keeping boating a safe, accessible, and enjoyable pastime. The Foundation's Grassroots Grants Program supports local, regional, and national nonprofit organizations, as well as boating clubs, environmental organizations, and student groups, that develop innovative projects to promote safe and clean boating. Past topics have ranged from PSAs on the effects of boating under the influence to hands-on education about the effects of marine debris. Grants of up to $10,000 are provided. Letters of intent may be submitted throughout the year. Online application guidelines are available on the Foundation's website.

Equipment Funds for Free Health Clinics
American Academy of Family Physicians Foundation: Family Medicine Cares USA

Family Medicine Cares USA, a humanitarian initiative of the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) Foundation, helps free health clinics care for the uninsured in areas of need across the United States. The AAFP Foundation does not directly start and maintain free clinics but collaborates with the nonprofit organization National Association of Free & Charitable Clinics (NAFC) and its Volunteers in Medicine Program. New clinics can apply for up to $25,000 for the purchase of durable sustainable equipment and instruments necessary for diagnosis and treatment related to primary care. New clinics must have opened or will open within six months of the application deadline date, have received or are in the process of receiving the NAFC Seal of Excellence, and have an AAFP member who maintains active, ongoing involvement with patient care at the clinic. If there are leftover funds, existing clinic grants of up to $10,000 are available. Applications are accepted from January 15 until July 15, 7pm (CDT), annually. Grants Promote Social Justice Through Impact Litigation
Impact Fund

The Impact Fund is dedicated to assisting nonprofit organizations, private attorneys, and small law firms who seek to advance social justice using impact litigation in the areas of civil and human rights, environmental justice, or poverty law throughout the United States. The Fund offers support in the following sectors: The Social Justice sector provides grants and legal support to assist in human and civil rights cases. The Economic Justice sector focuses on cases fighting for economic justice, from worker's rights to consumer protection for vulnerable populations. The Environmental Justice sector funds impact litigation for environmental justice, with a focus on marginalized communities. The remaining letter of inquiry deadlines for 2022 are July 19 and October 11. Visit the Fund's website to learn more about the grant guidelines and application process.

Youth Running Programs Supported
Road Runners Club of America: Kids Run the Nation Grant Fund

The Road Runners Club of America (RRCA) is dedicated to supporting the growth of grassroots running clubs, training programs, and running events while promoting the common interests of runners throughout the United States. The Kids Run the Nation Grant Fund, an initiative of the RRCA, supports nonprofit organizations and schools in the U.S. that are interested in implementing or currently have a youth running program. Grants of $500 to $1,000 are provided to running clubs and other nonprofit organizations such as parent booster clubs, PTAs, etc. Elementary and middle schools that provide organized after-school running programs are also eligible to apply. Since the goal of the grant program is to have kids running at least once a week for multiple weeks, funded programs should offer more than just one-time events. The grant application deadline is August 1, 2022. Online application information is available on the RRCA website.

Funds for Healthy Living Initiatives in Mississippi
Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi Foundation

The mission of the Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi Foundation is to improve the health and wellness of all Mississippians. The Foundation's grantmaking focus is on healthy eating and exercise programs, with measurable outcomes demonstrating improvement in the health of Mississippians. The Foundation provides support for health and wellness efforts offered by nonprofit organizations, K-12 schools, colleges and universities, and municipalities throughout the state. Letters of inquiry may be submitted at any time. Information on the guidelines and the application procedure is available on the Foundation's website.

Grants Address Educational Inequities in Minnesota
Ciresi Walburn Foundation for Children

The Ciresi Walburn Foundation for Children is dedicated to promoting education and equitable opportunities for all of Minnesota's children and youth. The Foundation provides Annual Grants to nonprofit organizations, higher education institutions, and K-12 schools that support children and families throughout the state. The Foundation's focus is on funding efforts to eliminate inequities in the educational system, including early learning programs, education policy and advocacy, programs that support educators, high performing K-12 schools, and wrap-around programs focused on children and families in high-needs neighborhoods. The letter of inquiry window will open on June 22 and close on July 15, 2022; invited full proposals will be due September 16, 2022. Staff Training Support for East Coast Organizations
TD Charitable Foundation: Non-Profit Training Resource Fund

The Non-Profit Training Resource Fund, an initiative of the TD Charitable Foundation, provides grants to charitable organizations for employees to attend approved classes and courses that will enhance job performance. Grants of up to $1,000 will be awarded to organizations within the TD Bank market area on the East Coast that offer services like job training, arts programs, and housing assistance to low- to moderate-income people and communities. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and are reviewed monthly. Visit the TD Bank website to review the Fund guidelines.

Funds for Youth, Arts, and Social Programs in Alaska
Richard L. and Diane M. Block Foundation

The Richard L. and Diane M. Block Foundation is dedicated to supporting nonprofit organizations that enhance the quality of life of Alaska's people. The Foundation's grantmaking focus is on the following: the young who will lead and power the state's future, the cultural organizations that inspire the community intellectually and artistically, and the social service organizations that lift up the poor so they may permanently and independently share in Alaska's bounty. Applying social service agencies should demonstrate that they will address the causes of the needs they are serving and are making efforts to fix the underlying problem. Applications for the final funding cycle of 2022 will be accepted from July 1 through August 1. Arts Projects Supported
National Endowment for the Arts

The Grants for Arts Projects program supports public engagement with, and access to, various forms of art across the nation, the creation of art, learning in the arts at all stages of life, and the integration of the arts into the fabric of community life. The program funds arts projects in the following disciplines: artist communities, arts education, dance, design, folk and traditional arts, literary arts, local arts agencies, media arts, museums, music, musical theater, opera, presenting and multidisciplinary arts, theater, and visual arts. Applications are due to grants.gov by July 7, 2022. The deadline for submittals to the NEA applicant portal is July 19, 2022.

Program Helps Create Jobs for Low-Income Individuals
Department of Health and Human Services

The Community Economic Development Projects program supports well-planned, financially viable, and innovative projects to enhance job creation and business development for individuals with low incomes. The program funds projects that address the personal and community barriers that must be overcome for individuals with low incomes to become self-sufficient. Funds can also be used for costs associated with business startup or expansion activities, provided that the expenditures result in the creation of positions that can be filled with individuals with low incomes. Eligible efforts may also include the re-creation or restoration of full-time, full-year positions that were lost due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The application deadline is July 11, 2022.

Written by grantmakers and co-founders of the Trust-Based Philanthropy Project, the article "We're Here to Clear the Air on What Trust-Based Philanthropy Is and What It Isn't" defines the different aspects of trust-based philanthropy and argues that this approach works as a strategy to address unequal power dynamics between grantmakers and nonprofits.
