Programs for Veterans Funded
McCormick Foundation: McCormick Veterans Program
The mission of the McCormick Foundation is to advance the ideals of a free, democratic society by investing in our children, communities, and country. The McCormick Veterans Program honors the service of America’s veterans by supporting nonprofit organizations that assist veterans in overcoming their unique challenges and successfully re-entering life at home and work. Grants of $5,000 to $250,000 are provided to organizations that focus on one of the following five key areas relevant to veterans: mental health (including traumatic brain injury, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and traumatic injuries); family issues (including psychological support for family members of veterans suffering from injuries); shelter and homelessness (including programs to help homeless veterans or provide special needs housing); job and career development (including job training, counseling, and resume preparation); and legal challenges facing our veterans. Support for Social Justice Efforts
Peace Development Fund: Community Organizing Grant Program
The Peace Development Fund was founded on the belief that lasting change will come only when a large amount of people are well informed and empowered to make change. The Fund’s Community Organizing Grant Program provides support to U.S.-based groups that are engaged in community organizing work for social justice. Applying organizations must have an annual budget of less than $250,000. In addition applicants should create a power base that can hold leaders accountable to the people who are affected by their decisions. The maximum grant size for the upcoming grant cycle is $5,000. Grants Enhance Youth Literacy Programs
WHO Foundation Education/Literacy Grants Program
The WHO Foundation: Women Helping Others supports grassroots nonprofit organizations serving the overlooked needs of women and children in the United States and Puerto Rico. The Foundation's Education/Literacy Grant Program provides grants to free after-school programs and other education or literacy programs for low-income children of all ages. Organizations must have been incorporated for a minimum of three years prior to applying. Preference will be given to organizations with an operating budget of $3 million or less, those not dependent upon government grants, and those with greater organizational program costs than personnel costs. Awards Recognize Social Innovators
Civic Ventures: The Purpose Prize
The Purpose Prize, administered by Civic Ventures, provides awards to people over 60 who are taking on society's biggest challenges. The prize recognizes those with the passion and experience to discover new opportunities, create new programs, and make lasting change. Five awards of $100,000 and five awards of $50,000 will be given to exceptional individuals who are channeling their creativity and talent to address critical social problems at the local, regional, national, or international level. The winners may be working in public, private, nonprofit, or for-profit organizations devoted to tackling the hardest challenges of our time: homelessness, social justice and human rights, violence, poverty and hunger, health, education, and the environment, to name a few. Nominees must be legal residents of the U.S. who have initiated important innovations in an encore career. The nomination deadline is March 5, 2010. Health Literacy Programs in Florida Supported
Florida Literacy Coalition: Health Literacy Grant Program
The Health Literacy Grant Program, administered by the Florida Literacy Coalition and supported by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida, provides support to nonprofit organizations and government agencies in the state that offer ESOL/literacy services. The purpose of the grants program is to provide training, resources, and funding to adult ESOL and family literacy programs, enabling them to help students gain the information and skills needed to make informed choices regarding their health and nutrition. Program services may be delivered via classes, small groups, or one-to-one tutoring. Sixteen grants of $5,000 will be provided in 2010. The application deadline is March 11, 2010. Funds for Environmental Programs in Targeted Regions
Constellation Energy EcoStar Grant Program
Constellation Energy supports nonprofit organizations that are working to improve the quality of life in company communities throughout the U.S. The company offers EcoStar Grants of up to $5,000 to local nonprofit organizations for projects that address at least one of the following five environmental focus areas: pollution prevention, education, energy efficiency, conservation, and community activism. Funded projects must be located geographically within a region where Constellation Energy does business (the continental states with the exception of AZ, GA, ID, MT, NM, NV, OR, and WY). The application deadline is March 16, 2010. Online application information is available on the company’s website.
Grants Enhance Company Communities
Georgia-Pacific Foundation
The Georgia-Pacific Foundation supports a wide range of organizations that improve the quality of life in communities where Georgia-Pacific operates, and where company employees live and work. (Information on Georgia-Pacific facilities and locations is available online.) The Foundation has identified the following key investment areas: education, including job readiness and literacy; community investment, including affordable housing and cultural programs; environment, including resource conservation and clean air/clean water; and entrepreneurship, especially among youth, women, and minorities. Grants generally range from $1,000 to $5,000. Grant applications will be accepted between January 1 and October 31, 2010. Visit the company’s website to take the required online eligibility survey.
Oregon Health Care Reform Advocacy Projects Supported
Northwest Health Foundation
The Northwest Health Foundation supports nonprofit organizations working to increase health care access in Oregon and southwest Washington. Through the current Request for Proposals (RFP), “Promoting Partnerships to Strengthen Health Care Reform Advocacy,” the Foundation seeks to encourage the voices of those most affected by health care reform to be represented in health care policy. The Foundation will support organizations working to expand access and reform the system, including increasing the presence of diverse voices to highlight health equity in the health reform conversation, with a focus on planning for the 2011 legislative session. Specifically, the Foundation is seeking proposals from groups comprised of two or more partners to support health reform advocacy activities which include, but are not limited to, grassroots organizing, public-will building, coalition building and participation, communications and messaging, and policy analysis. At least ten grants of up to $50,000 will be provided. The application deadline is March 15, 2010. Visit the Foundation’s website to download the RFP.

Department of Justice: OVW FY 2010 Transitional Housing Assistance Grants for Victims of Sexual Assault, Domestic Violence, Dating Violence, and Stalking Program
This program provides support to transitional housing assistance programs for victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, and/or stalking.
Department of Health and Human Services: Administration on Aging: Eldercare Locator
This program provides support to establish a call center (Locator) that is able to better serve current and future older adults and those who care for them via telephone, TTD/TTY, email, and online inquiries.
Department of Agriculture: Outreach Assistance for Socially Disadvantaged Farmers and Ranchers Competitive Grants Program
This program provides support to conduct outreach and technical assistance to encourage and assist socially disadvantaged farmers and ranchers to own and operate farms and ranches and to participate in agricultural programs.
Institute of Museum and Library Services: 21st Century Museum Professionals
This program provides support to increase the capacity of museums by improving the knowledge and skills of museum professionals in multiple institutions.
National Endowment for the Humanities: Landmarks of American History and Culture Workshops for School Teachers
This program provides support for series of one-week, residence-based workshops for a national audience of K-12 educators.
